Antigua Hostels: El Hostal

Big Private Rooms

El Hostal is set in a large house whose private rooms are far larger than in most hostels. There are eleven private rooms with three beds in each. The dormitory is in the rear, close to the showers and restrooms.

Unlike most hostels, the showers and restrooms are divided into male and female sections on opposite sides of the room. And the towering water heater ensures you won’t run out of hot water in mid-shower.

Free Breakfast, Wi-Fi

A tall fountain greets you as you enter the open air courtyard, an amiable gathering place for guests throughout the day and evening. The courtyard is the setting for the free breakfast, which is served from 7:30 to 10:30 AM.

Other amenities include free Wi-Fi, great prices on beer, wine and juices, and good deals on shuttles, local tours and trips to Salvador and other places. If going on a tour, you can pick up a box lunch that includes water.

Budget Private Rooms and Dorm

One of the few hostels in town that accepts all major credit and debit cards, El Hostal is also one of the most affordable. Bunk beds in the dorm go for Q75. Private rooms cost Q120 for a single, Q210 for two, and Q285 for three people. Happy Hour

The ' hood

The East Side is more laid back than the area around Central Park, but it’s only a five-minute walk to the park and its surrounding bars, restaurants and other attractions.

But you’ll find plenty of places to hang out or dine around First Avenue, where the scene is not as touristy as around the park.

Even so, there is still a lot to do in this neighborhood. Next door, Tu Pina Tambien is a great lunch spot. Cafe No Se and Sky Cafe are across the street. And farther up First Avenue, there’s the El Muro Pub and Ni Fu Ni Fa, a fine Argentine steak house.

With such a charming location, oversized private rooms and numerous amenities, El Hostal is your best bet for budget lodging on Antigua’s East Side.
